Pathfinder Open Reference 1.0.18 Released!

With such a big release last week, it as inevitable there would be some bugs.  1.0.18 is being released to address those: 1.0.18 -

  • Monster entries has spurious data under Natural Armor, Hit Dice and Breath Weapon
  • New classes were missing all spells from previous books
  • Adept spell list was broken
  • All core, base and npc classes with spells now have a linked list of spells that is a part of the class entry
  • Bookmark links on the side crashed on tablets
  • Bookmarks created in previous versions were not converting properly
  • Screen rotate now restores your location in the article
  • Cleanup of a bunch of articles based on feedback
  • A few more minor crash bugs were resolved

It's possible there are still bookmark defects floating about.  I'll keep an eye out for them and fix them if they crop up

Pathfinder Open Reference 1.0.16-1.0.17 Released!

This is a monster of a release.  I made significant backend modifications to support some future initiatives.  This caused the release to get stretched for a really long time, but I think the results are worth it. It's perhaps possible that the birth of my new baby daughter Aurelia may have cause some delay too :-) 1.0.16,1.0.17 -

  • Ultimate Combat
  • NPC Codex
  • All other changes from the 2013/01/13 PRD update

Three new top level menu items

  • Class Customizations: includes sections for every class's archetypes, and other customizations (rogue talents, wizard schools, etc)
  • Hazards: I went through every monster entry, spell, etc to tag all hazards for quick reference (Addictions, Curses, Diseases, Haunts, Infestations, Insanities, Poisons & Traps)
  • Quick Reference: Commonly used things like Conditions, special attacks free/full-round/move/standard actions, etc

Improvements to creatures

  • Cleaned up a lot of bad data
  • There are now menu items under creatures for NPCs and Templates

New Preferences

  • Preference menu that lets you turn on/off any book that you don't use or is not allowed in your game. (Thanks to robertpeacock22)

  • Keyboards that offer autocomplete were damaging search by adding a space at the end.  autocompleted words should now work fine in search

Hardware Support

  • Added support for samsung devices that enable multi-window interfaces

  • New splash screen for loading

Under the covers

  • Books are now separate databases, this opens the way for being able to download additional books.  Lots of people have requested data from books not in the pathfinder srd, I now have a future path towards supporting this.
  • All articles now have a stable URL.  This can be used now to open the pathfinder open reference via intents from other applications, but will also be the foundation of a future API that will let 3rd party apps use the data from this app.  The supported URLs to launch articles are here.  Further documentation on this will be added later.

Pathfinder Open Reference 1.0.15 Released!

Now that I am settled in in Colorado, it's time to get a release out.  This release has focused on a ton of small usability features and defects. I started linking tables to articles, starting with monster related ones. I hope to get most other tables linked later. 1.0.15 - * Words of Power were missing, added * NPC Gallery npcs were missing - they now show up under monsters as well * Linked NPC Gallery table to NPCs * Linked Summon Monster/Nature's Ally spells to creatures * Fixed formatting issues for vehicles, race creator, and various spells * Find in page tool can now be hidden

Pathfinder Open Reference 1.0.11 Released

This release adds the much requested feature of exposing archetypes in class articles.  I'm not certain if this method is the final incarnation, but it gets pretty close.  All snippets from other books that relate to a particular class will now show up in that class' article. 1.0.11 * Search was broken for tablets in the last release, fixed * Some monsters were not sorting properly * Fixed numerous formatting issues in magic item articles * Some minor creature changes * Class articles now contain any relevant snippets from other books.

Pathfinder Open Reference 1.0.10 Released

This is a monster of an update.  The way bookmarks had been previously done was unworkable, and broke with every upgrade.  Sadly, bookmarks will break again on this release, but the new bookmarking code is of a much better design and should not break with any future releases.  Sorry about this, but this one time break should mean these are stable in the future. 1.0.10 - * Massive rework done on monsters in this release.  Fixed tons of minor to major issues on hundreds of monsters. * Added links between encounter tables/cohorts and the monsters they are referring to * Incorporated all the changes from the prd update from 7/16/2012. (Second printing of the Bestiary 2) * Fixed bookmarks to not break between updates, unfortunately causing a one time erasure of bookmarks. * The application back button caused an exception on Jelly Bean devices. * Search was hard to find for many people (The hardware search button is not obvious on some phones). I have added search to the menu for these devices. * Many playable monster races had text that made them irritating to use.  I have rolled in the content referenced as "see above" into their entries. * Many feats are hidden in optional rules of various books.  Many of those have been bubbled up to the feat interface. * The summary for spells was mixed in with the spell text causing confusion for some users.  This has been reworked. * An exception was thrown if you accessed the OGL or Community use license from certain pages. * A lot of unicode garbage characters have been fixed in a lot of pages. * Fixed about a dozen exceptions. * Reworked a bunch of backend code to make incorporating new books easier in the future.

Pathfinder Open Reference 1.0.9 Released

This is an exciting release.  I've squashed a ton of database related bugs (may have been causing some force closes for some of you).  I've also instrumented the application further so that when a crash happens, I'll be able to more easily figure out what the user was doing when it crashed.' That being said, none of that sounds exciting, what I'm excited about is that this is the first release with images!  Since I'm covered under the community use licence, I can use the iconics, which I've added to the class articles in this release.  Look for additional images (Paizo allows people to use images from their blog if they are following the community use license).

Second, this is the first release incorporating feedback from the issue reporter added in the last release. To everyone who reported issues with articles, thank you, many of these fixes came from your effort.

(1.0.9) - * Added images to classes * Added starting gold to classes * Spell components with commas were getting messed up * Fixed multiple small formatting isses with monsters * Removed OGL sections from showing up in search (always still accessible from the menu) * Added additional instrumentation to get to the bottom of force closes * Fixed multiple database related force closes

Pathfinder Open Reference 1.0.8 Released

Starting to attack some content bugs in the app.  In that vein, I added a new error reporting system, ACRA, which will report more exceptions (force closes) to me, as well as giving me a way to let users flag content that has problems.  This should be a great way for users to start a dialog with me so that I can focus on the things people want most.  This does add a new permission (Internet) so you will need to intentionally upgrade. (1.0.8) - New permission: Internet * Classes were missing both alignment restrictions and hit dice * Added improved error reporting * Added button to enable users to easily report mistakes in the content directly from the app. If you see a problem, let us know by tapping the warning triangle at the top of any article, and give a quick note as to what the problem is.

Pathfinder Open Reference 1.0.7 Released

Fixed a couple user reported errors, and getting the app ready for release onto the amazon app store. (1.0.7) - * Lists could get out of sync with lots of scrolling. Found because of a report of wizard spells not matching up. * Force close caused if a user removed all bookmark collections and tried to view an article. * Kindle Fire now properly recognized as a 'tablet'
